Hans Gregor

Hans Gregor ( born April 14, 1866 in Dresden, † August 13, 1945 Wernigerode ) was a German actor, director and theater director.

Life

Gregor was head various German theaters, including from 1898 to 1905 in Barmen and Elberfeld, 1905-1911 in Berlin and from 1911 to 1918 in Vienna.

In 1905 he founded the privately run, first Komische Oper in Berlin in Friedrichstrasse at the Weidendammer bridge. He sat there new standards in the management of a private theater. 19 world premieres, as well as spectacular performances of Jacques Offenbach's Tales of Hoffmann, Hugo Wolf's Der Corregidor, Frederick Delius ' Romeo and Juliet at the village and Claude Debussy's Pelléas et Mélisande, he brought out at this stage. However, his concept of art without convention, prejudice and Künstlereitelkeiten did not work out.

In 1911 he was appointed director of the Court Opera in Vienna KK and closed its loss-making companies in Berlin.

A complete novelty for the KK Court Opera was that Hans Gregor has been recruited through an agency. Despite its economic success, failure in Berlin, he hurried to Vienna, the reputation of a " successful art manager " forward. Despite the war years 1914-1918 he actually achieved great success during his time management. Highlights were the world premiere of Richard Strauss's Der Rosenkavalier and premieres of Richard Wagner's Parsifal and Franz Schmidt's Notre Dame. The ensemble, he expanded by new commitments from Jeritza, Lotte Lehmann, and Alfred Piccaver.

One of the last performances under the direction of Gregory was Jenufa by Leos Janacek in February 1918. This performance was seen as a concession to the Czechs in the already decaying multi-ethnic state of the Habsburg Monarchy and not particularly well received by the German - national press. With the end of the Austro -Hungarian monarchy Gregory term ended in Vienna.
