Hans-Jürg Fehr

Hans -Jürg Fehr ( born August 7, 1948 in Rheinklingen, Canton Thurgau ) is a Swiss politician (SP).

Activities as parliamentarians

When Fehr was elected in the 1999 elections to the National Council, he could already look back on a long political career. From 1983 to 1984 Fehr was a member of the City Parliament of Schaffhausen, 1983, he was also (now Cantonal ) selected in the canton of Schaffhausen in the Grand Council. In 2009 he resigned as Kantonsrat. Fehr is a member of the National Council's Commission for Economic Affairs and Taxation and the Foreign Affairs Committee. On May 24, 2013 Fehr announced his retirement from the National Council known to the end of the summer session of 2014. He would thus strengthen the Schaffhauser SP- seat in the National Council for the next elections of 2014. Successor will be in September 2013 SP Canton Councillor and President of the Cantonal party Martina Munz.

Fehr as a party politician

Fehr occurred in 1977, the SP. Four years later he took over for two years, the Bureau of SP- section of the town of Schaffhausen. In 1985 he was a board member of the SP. One year after his election to the National Council, in October 2000, he was elected by the delegates of Switzerland SP Vice President of the SP. On 6 March 2004 he was elected to succeed Christiane Brunner President of the SP Switzerland. Fehr managed within a short time, the last remaining to calm internal party conflicts of the era Ursula Koch on, and let the party appear united in public again. The internal party success was, however, in stark contrast to declining voter strength of his party.

On 26 October 2007 Fehr announced his resignation as of March 2008. He therefore drew the consequences from the heavy defeat of the SP at the Swiss Parliament elections in 2007. On 1 March 2008 was elected to an extraordinary party congress in Basel Christian Levrat his successor.

Political Profile

In the 46th legislature ( 1999-2003) Fehr was practically lying on the line of his party. He positioned himself for a clear foreign policy opening of Switzerland, for the expansion of social welfare, for social liberalization, and the protection of the environment. Favorable, but more critical than the middle position of his group to Fehr positioned with respect to economic liberalization. Clear negative Fehr is compared to a restrictive immigration policy and tax cuts.

Hans -Jürg Fehr is a historian and has worked as a middle school teacher, editor and publishing director. He is married and lives in Schaffhausen. Fehr chairs the Swiss Labour Assistance SAH and the Board of Directors of az Verlags AG, which produces the Schaffhauser AZ.
