Hans Theyer

Hans Theyer ( born June 11, 1884 in Vienna, † July 18, 1955 ) was an Austrian camera pioneer.

Life

He graduated from the School of Applied Arts and studied at the Graphic Arts Research Institute in Vienna then.

From 1905 he made ​​numerous cultural films for the French production company Pathé Frères, including in China, Japan and Korea. Around 1912, 1913, he was also employed at the Italian offshoot film d'Art Italy. This was followed by a position as a cameraman at Messter - (including Income Target, 1914) and Sascha film in Vienna. From 1915 he worked for the Filmexpositur of kuk War press neighborhood, who was employed under the direction of Sascha Kolowrat Krakowsky with the production of propaganda films, and thus escaped the military service. In 1919 he founded with his colleagues Ludwig Schaschek the " Association of operators ", which in 1922 together with other interest groups rose in the movie waistband. On 1933 founded the Institute for Teaching talkies Art in Vienna, he worked as a teacher for a descendant cameramen. From 1933 to 1936, the later director Franz Antel was assistant to Hans Theyer in films of Sascha movie. Until 1939, when the Sascha film was already disbanded and re-founded in Vienna for a film, he was still active in Vienna. The following war years until 1945 he spent in Sweden.

Hans Theyers son Hans H. Theyer, born in Vienna in 1910, also became a cameraman.
