Hans van Steenwinckel the Younger

Hans van Steenwinckel the Younger ( * June 24, 1587 in Copenhagen, † August 6, 1639 ) was an architect and sculptor. He came from the Flemish family of artists Steenwinckel who worked in Denmark in the 16th and 17th centuries. He was like his father Hans I and later his son Hans III. Royal builder in Denmark.

Life

Hans van Steenwinckel trained by his father in Halmstad until his death, after 1602 also in Holland. It is not known exactly when Steenwinckel returned from Holland to Denmark. From 1612 he worked in the construction of Frederiksborg Castle. 1619 he was appointed General builder and construction of Børsen. He took over the further expansion of Varberg Fortress, which had already begun under his father. 1629 was his responsibility to the reconstruction of Kronborg Castle after the fire and to 1634 he exhibited for King Christian IV, Rosenborg Castle, the new finish. In 1637 he began even to Rundetårn, which was not completed until after his death. For the castle in Tasinge he delivered in 1639 yet the design.
