Hans Zürn the Elder

Hans Zürn the Elder ( * btw 1555 and 1560; † after 1631) was a German sculptor and founding father of the famous Upper Swabian family of artists.

Career

Around 1560 he made his sculptor teaching in Bad Buchau. His teacher was perhaps Jacob Grangler. Since 1582 he was a citizen and master sculptor in Bad Waldsee. Hans Zürn the Elder. was a teacher of his sons David, Hans the Younger, Martin and Michael Elder. Since 1619 he is mentioned as a citizen in Horn Book.

Works

1613-16 he worked at the high altar of the cathedral in Überlingen and created in 1624 the high altar of Frauenbergkapelle in Bad Waldsee.
