Happy Songs for Happy People (Eng. about: Happy songs for happy people ) is the fourth studio album by the Scottish post- rock band Mogwai. It was released in 2003 on Play It Again Sam / Matador Records.

For most songs are instrumentals; only " Hunted by a Freak ", " Killing All the Flies " and " Boring Machines disturbs sleep" included - mostly highly distorted - singing.

Reception

The album received positive critics relative judgments. Pitchfork gives the album 7.1 out of 10 possible points; Allmusic calls it " one of the best albums of the band" and four out of five.

In Plattentests.de it gets 8 out of 10 and laut.de four of five points .. For idiosyncratic album title Plattentests.de writes:

" Is that meta- irony? Or do the duration of depressive Mogwai titled " Happy songs for happy people " actually serious? Of course, work titles such as plate also ideal as a jab at those who want to primarily listen unfortunate music for and unhappy people. The fun lies in the Scots up in the game with the double bottoms. But where one would expect pitfalls and other abysses, Mogwai come with us this time, well, upright euphony. That we may live to see. "

Charts

For the first time it created a Mogwai album in the U.S. Billboard 200 album charts. 47th in the UK album charts, however, was compared to the two previous albums, the number 29 or number 23 reached, a descent.
