Harald Hauswald

Harald Hauswald ( May 3, 1954 in Radebeul ) is a German photographer who became famous for his everyday and Berlin photographs. He is co-founder of Berlin-based agency Ostkreuz.

Life

After an apprenticeship as a photographer (1970-1972) and work in Radebeul Harald Hauswald moved in 1977 to Berlin, where he initially pursued various activities, such as heaters, restorer, photo lab and then in his learned profession as a photographer in the Stephanus Foundation Berlin- Weissensee. He was inducted into the Association of Artists of the GDR ( VBK ) 1989.

Especially through the book East Berlin The other side of a city, which he has made together with Lutz Rathenow, Hauswald is considered an important critical chronicler of the last days of the GDR.

Since 1990 he has worked freelance. So his photo reportages were seen among others in the GEO, the Y and Time magazine. 1997 Hauswald was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit, and in 2006 the unit price by the Federal Centre for Political Education.

In 2007, he was many famous authors like Freya Klier, Thomas and Alexander Osang win Brussig to write down their own personal experiences and impressions about the place for his book Alexanderplatz.

In 2009, he presented some of his work in the group exhibition Eastern time. Stories from a Vanished Country at the House of World Cultures in Berlin.

2013 East he published his photo book Again: The last years of the GDR. Photographs 1986-1990.
