Harald Leupold-Löwenthal

Johann Friedrich Harald Leupold - Lowenthal ( born August 6, 1926 in Vienna, † March 13, 2007 ) was an Austrian psychiatrist and neurologist and since 1971 active in free practice training analyst.

Life

Leupold - Lowenthal was born in Vienna. After the war Matura ( 1944) and recently, military service, he studied medicine at the University of Vienna and in 1951 a post at the Vienna University Psychiatric Clinic at.

1953 and 1954, he studied in London, before 1959, received recognition as a specialist in psychiatry and neurology. From 1961 to 1963 he worked at the Psychiatric Hospital of Vienna. At the same time he completed psychoanalytic training and his training analysis. In 1964 he opened his own practice.

1963 Leupold - Lowenthal, a member of the Vienna Psychoanalytic Society, from 1967 to 1973 he was its secretary from 1974 to 1981 its president.

Together with Friedrich hackers and other Leupold - Lowenthal was a member of the founding board of the Vienna founded in 1968, Sigmund- Freud -Gesellschaft, 1971, he was instrumental in setting up the Sigmund Freud museum in the former home of Sigmund Freud in Vienna. From 1976 to 1999 he was president of the Sigmund Freud Society.

1982 Leupold - Lowenthal habilitated at the University of Vienna and received teaching authorization for psychotherapy and psychoanalysis with consideration of clinical psychotherapy.

Leupold - Lowenthal suffered according to a statement of the Vienna Psychoanalytic Society in March 2007, a cardiac arrest. He was buried at Vienna's Central Cemetery.

One of the last public appearances Leupold - Lowenthal took place after the death of Gerhard Bronner, whose close friend he had been and he remembered in the context of a TV commemorative broadcast.
