He was a close associate of Krishna AC Bhaktivedanta and managed the sales Bhaktivedanta Book Trust ( formerly: Lotus Eye Music ), over which he produced in these writings also music directed by him since 1978 bands Rasa, Bliss and Sri Hari. Campagnola distanced himself in 1998 by the ISKCON, but continues to serve as a spiritual mentor and musicians under the name of Hari.

Life

Robert Campagnola was born in New York in 1948. He joined the State University of New York at Stony Brook with a permit as a teacher now and became involved in various charity projects. He was six years in the volunteer fire brigade East Williston. As he prepared for a career as a musician, he came up with the Hare Krishna movement, ISKCON in contact. He met the founder and leader AC Bhaktivedanta ( Swami Prabhupada ), whose music he recorded in Brooklyn in July 1971. Later, he was introduced by Prabhupada in New York in the Krishna movement and was named Harikesa dasa. He then moved to the ISKCON roadshow through North America, where he played the organ and guitar and participated in theatrical stage performances. In March 1972 he went to Prabhupada's desire for India to be involved in the project development.

Harikesa was some time Prabhupada's personal secretary, who translated for him books, travel planning, cooking, answering letters, etc. In February 1976, he became a sannyasin and traveled throughout Western and Eastern Europe, including the Soviet Union to spread Prabhupada's teachings. After the death of Prabhupada in 1977 Harikesa became one of the eleven so-called zonal acaryas, who were allowed to perform until the end of the Zonal Acarya system in 1986 as a sole Guru Krishna initiations. Harikesa was responsible for Central Europe and the Eastern Bloc countries. He is said to have introduced more than 3,000 candidates. He also took over the management of Krishna publisher Bhaktivedanta Book Trust ( BBT ), which he expanded from minor backyard operation into a major publishing house, which published until 1998, more than 450 titles in 37 languages.

The success of the publisher added, that it Harikesa and his colleagues in the late 1970s managed to drive one of the then still very expensive typesetting computer via a standard home computer ( Heathkit/Z-80 ) and thus can conveniently produce briefs in Sanskrit and Cyrillic. The Krishna programmers under Harikesa also developed a first WYSIWYG word processor clone of WordStar and - long before the Internet - a COM system called global, digital communication network over which the worldwide activities of the BBT were coordinated.

Having already circulated cassette recordings of Harikesas musical performances of the early 1970s, he took in 1978 with Dattatreya (drums), Mats Olauson (piano), Stig Sjoberg (guitar) and a bassist under the group name Rasa Album Oasis on that over the Krishna - own distribution Lotus Eye was successfully sold. The group became popular, especially in Europe and has also played at various festivals, especially in Germany. The repertoire consisted of adaptations of Indian texts and songs and original compositions by Harikesa, which came on disks as Vishnupada in appearance. Stylistically, the plates of Rasa are a colorful mixture of rock and pop, with hints of progressive rock, blues, reggae and Indian music. Together with Ekhardt Matz ( Ekanath that), he built a recording studio in Korsnas Gard ( Sweden), were produced in the other albums by Rasa, other artists and programs for the Stockholm Radio Krishna. Rasa consisted in changing formations until 1984. Campagnola took from 1987 until 1997 with Mats Olauson under the group name Bliss on other albums that do not possess the stylistic variety of Rasa publications. The mid-1990s he also published under the name of Sri Hari two albums with Krishna Techno.

In 1977 he was appointed to the Sri Mayapur Project Development Committee, whose director he was after 1991, and the building of a temple with associated infrastructure in Mayapur (West Bengal, India) had the goal. The project is said to have developed very successful until the mid- 1990s, then stagnated, however, when rumors of poisoning Prabhupada and allegations of child abuse within the Gurukulas the Krishna movement were loud. As in 1998 also turned out that a supposedly Ayurvedic remedy ( " Vibhuti " ), the Harikesa occupied since 1988, was in fact a mixture of two psychotropic drugs, he suffered a breakdown and had to undergo emergency treatment. By then treated him massage therapist, he began an affair, which violated the moral code for Guru of the Hare Krishna movement. After the permission was revoked in new students to initiate, he joined shortly thereafter out of the movement.

Robert Campagnola is now known as Hari, lives in Florida and has there married a former Krishna devotee from Sweden, Katarina. He continues to hold spiritual discourses and records music on.
