Harold Ridley (ophthalmologist)

Sir Nicholas Harold Lloyd Ridley (* July 10, 1906 in Kibworth Harcourt, Leicestershire, † 25 May 2001, Salisbury ) was a British ophthalmologist.

He implanted on November 29, 1949 at St. Thomas Hospital in London, a patient's first artificial lens ( intraocular lens ). This surgery is now a common procedure, but was then a medical sensation. 1959, the implantation of the Ridley lens was abandoned due to high complication rates and you explored other forms of artificial eye lenses.
