Harold Rosenberg

Harold Rosenberg ( born February 2, 1906 in New York; † July 11, 1978 same place ) was an American art and cultural critic.

He coined the term Action Painting in 1952, an art movement that later became known under the name of Abstract Expressionism.

In the 1960s and 1970s, he was together with Clement Greenberg dominant in the American art scene, and recognized and set trends far beyond the art in the narrow sense.
