Harry Champion

Harry Champion ( born March 23, 1866 in Shoreditch, London, † January 14, 1942 in Tottenham, real name William Crump ) was a British music hall singer, comedian and composer.

Crump's first artist name, with whom he appeared in the London music halls as a comedian in 1888, Will Conray was. Later he established the role of a London Cockney and called himself Harry Champion. To his comic presentation also included funny songs about everyday topics, which he also wrote the part itself. His specialty was very fast and staccato present his Cockney songs and thus to inspire the audience.

Some of the songs from his repertoire are music-hall classics, such as Boiled Beef and Carrots, A Little Bit of Cucumber ( Here Comes Old ) Beaver and Ginger, You're Barmy. Some songs are still known by admissions of other artists in the 50s and 60s until today. So Peter Sellers had with Any Old Iron his first hit, Tommy Steele brought What a Mouth ( What a North and South ) into the British Top 5 and Herman's Hermits had with her rock and roll version of the Champion standards I ' m Henery the Eighth I Am even a number 1 hit and million-seller in the United States.

Champion even exist very many shots as he recorded many times and it pulled him up into the 30s again and again into the recording studio. He joined in 1932 and 1935 at the Royal Variety Performance on an annual charity gala evening organized by the British royal family, and was active on his 70th birthday also. He died at the age of 75 in his home in London's Tottenham.
