Harry Siljander

Harry Walfrid Siljander ( born December 10, 1922 in Helsinki, † 5, 2010 in Espoo ) was a Finnish boxer.

Career

In 1948, Siljander part in the Olympic Games and reached the quarter-finals after two wins in the light heavyweight (-80 kg), which he lost to eventual Olympic champion George Hunter, South Africa. At the European Championships in 1949, he retired in the first fight against Willi Schagen, Netherlands, from.

At the Summer Olympics in Helsinki in 1952, he won the light heavyweight ( to 81 kg) after victories over Dumitru Ciobotaru from Romania and Karl Kistner from Germany and after a 0-3 defeat to eventual Olympic champion Norvel Lee from the United States together with Anatoly Perov from the Soviet Union the bronze medal.

Harry Siljander was five times Finnish champion, namely 1947, 1948, 1949, 1950 and 1952, and won silver in 1946. He was a member of the sports club Helsingin Atleettiklubi.
