The hydropower plant Harsprånget is Sweden's largest hydroelectric power station and is located at Porjus in the municipality of Jokkmokk.

History

Already in 1918 the Swedish Parliament took the decision at Porjus at Stora Luleälven to build a hydroelectric power plant. The work was stopped due to the poor economic situation in 1921. Not until 1945 that the construction was resumed and the first turbine went into operation in 1951.

At a height of 107 m produces an output of up to 977 MW after a reconstruction in the 1980s by the five Francis turbines. The average yielded annual work of the power plant is 2131 GWh. Operators of the power plant is the company Vattenfall.
