Harz Mountain Run

The Harz Mountain Pass is a mountain trail, taking place since 1978 in October in Wernigerode and has since 1990 a chunk called Marathon marathon course in the program. As more competitions a 22 - km run and a 11 km run will be offered. First time in 2007, a 5 - km race was offered again, which at the same time started with the 11- km run. The event participants achieved speeds of several thousand, for example in 2001 and 3,500 in 2004 reached a total of 3110 runners, the goal of which in the marathon 695 men and 73 women.

Marathon route

The marathon route is a circular route, in which the 1141.2 m above sea level. NHN high chunks must be defeated. The start and finish are located in the district of Wernigerode Hasserode. On the route, a total of 1150 vertical meters to go.

The Brocken was in the former GDR in the restricted zone and could therefore not be crossed. With the reunification of the first "real " chunk - marathon with 386 runners took place in 1990. Two years later, the chunks crossing was prohibited from nature protection reasons. Since 1993, there is a compromise with the National Park Authority, after which a maximum of 1,000 runners must cross the Brocken plateau in the course of 42.195 km long and 1,200 m measured marathons.
