Hasan M. Balyuzi

Hasan Muvaqqar Balyuzi ( born September 7, 1908 in Shiraz, Iran, † February 12, 1980 London, United Kingdom) was an Iranian Baha'i scholar and in 1957 was appointed by Shoghi Effendi to the Hands of the Cause of God.

Life

Balyuzi was both paternal and maternal, a descendant of the family of the Bab and lived in Bushehr on the Persian Gulf, in Mumbai and Pune. Although he grew up in a Baha'i family, was initially not convinced of the Bahai faith.

1925 Balyuzi visited his cousin Shoghi Effendi in Haifa, to spend the night on the way to Beirut. Although at that time Dr. John Esslemont just dying to Shoghi Effendi could take the time to answer the questions of Balyuzi. This encounter changed him so much that he supported the Bahai faith with all my heart for the rest of his life.

After a preparatory year at the American University of Beirut, he studied chemistry at first and then switched to a study of diplomatic history. After 1932 his exams taken, he left Beirut and went to Britain to start a Postgraduate Studies in Diplomatic History at the London School of Economics and Political Science. In 1935 he received the M.Sc. ( Econ. ).

He worked on the Persian section of the British Broadcasting Corporation. Part of the work was to translate English literature into Persian. He wrote three works in Persian published in Iran: "The story of the three sisters " ( Bronte ), a collection of short stories entitled " stepbrother " and a directory of over 700 English words of Persian origin.

In 1941 he married Mary Brown, with whom he had five sons.

1933 Balyuzi was elected as a member of the National Spiritual Council of Great Britain. He was re-elected in the next 27 years and served each including 17 years as Chairman. At the same time he was a member of the Local Spiritual Assembly of London and on numerous committees. Shoghi Effendi appointed him on 11 October 1957 a Hand of the Cause. A little later, on November 4, died Shoghi Effendi, and Balyuzi was one of the nine Hands of the Cause in the Holy Land, which guided the Baha'i world community. In that forum, which worked until the election of the first Universal House of Justice in 1963, he remained until 1959 and was then replaced by another Hand of the Cause. In the following years he undertook many journeys which have taken him to Germany, Denmark, the Netherlands, Ecuador, Peru, other South American countries and Canada.

In the last years of his life he could no longer travel for health reasons. He devoted all his time and energy to writing books on Baha'i topics. Below were biographies of Abdu'l-Baha, the Bab, the wife of the Bab, Baha'u'llah, excellent trailer Baha'u'llah and the relationship of the orientalist Edward Granville Browne to the Bahai faith. The biography of the Bab was the first book on the Bahai faith, were extensively quoted in the official documents from government archives. Some of these works have been translated into German and Persian. He died in 1980 and was buried at the North Cemetery of New Southgate, close to the grave of Shoghi Effendi.
