The dam Moulay Hassan I (named after Moulay al -Hassan I, former King of Morocco) is 145 meters above sea level, the highest dam in Morocco, at the same time the highest rockfill dam in Africa and is currently the seventh highest dam in Africa.

It was built in the 1980s, 19 km northeast of Demnate in the province of Azilal region of Tadla - Azilal in Morocco and is used for irrigation of an area of ​​400 km ², water supply and electricity generation. The hydropower plant has a Francis turbine with 67.2 MW. This 132 GWh of electricity can be generated per year. It was commissioned in 1991.

The reservoir holds 273 million cubic meters and has a surface area of ​​about 4 square kilometers.
