Hasso Spode

Hasso Spode (* 1951 in Berlin -Friedrich Hagen ) is a German historian, sociologist and author.

After a long Auslandsaufendhalt Spode worked in the food retail and studied - first as a student - history, sociology, religious studies and philosophy at the Free University of Berlin and the University of Hannover. In 1979 he passed the examination to become a Master of Arts from ( the main compartment Modern History ), 1989 he received his doctorate in sociology in Hanover, in 1997 he completed his habilitation just there and is Professor of Historical Sociology. In the years 1980/90er Spode conducted numerous socio-historical research projects and took up teaching (including at the Charité ) on. Since 1999 he has directed the Historical Archives for tourism, the 2012 is moved from the Free University of Berlin and the Center for Technology and Society at the Technical University of Berlin.

Spode was known in the 1990s for his work on cultural and social history of alcohol. He emphasizes the global and at the same time cyclical nature of discourses on alcohol ( " theming conjunctures "). His thesis of a long-term marginalization of intoxication in modernity and the corresponding revaluation of drinking to addiction disease have become commonplace.
