Haus der Musik

The House of Music was opened in 2000 and is a Sound Museum.

It is located in the historic city of Vienna in Palais Archduke Charles at the Seilerstätte. With modern interactive and multimedia presentation forms will be introduced to 5,000 square feet in the world of music - from the beginnings of human sound production to the music of our time. Four Austrian universities, two foreign university institutes, a team of musicians and musicologists, artists from the multimedia and other fields, sound engineers, architects and students were involved in the development of house music.

The House of Music was recognized for its innovative design with the Austrian Museum Prize. Honorary President is the conductor Zubin Mehta.

History

The House of Music is housed in the historic Palais Archduke Carl. In the 16th century it was the imperial Gießhaus, then took it to the pawnshop for many years. This later moved into the Dorotheergasse and was there as the " Dorotheum " to a urwienerischen as well as world-renowned institution.

One of the most popular Habsburg, Archduke Carl, acquired at the beginning of the 19th century, the building, it was the Palais remodel and moved into it in 1805. His wife was Princess Henriette Alexandrine of Nassau- Weilburg, in 1816 set up the first Christmas tree here in Vienna allowed.

1842 pulled a Otto Nicolai, who was principal conductor at the Court Opera and here prepared a cycle of orchestral concerts. From the " Philharmonic concerts " which Nicolai regarded as the founder of the Vienna Philharmonic emerged. Therefore, the Museum of the Vienna Philharmonic was established on the first floor.

In the glass-roofed courtyard are held throughout the year events. At the entrance right next to the checkout are in the stairwell, the "Dancing Vases " constructed a work of art from Italy. The continuous sound installation should reject the music as originating impulse of every culture and at the same time an innovative technical structure, in which the glass plates serve as a sound body. In addition, perform works by Johannes German along the stairs in the historic state rooms on the first floor.

1st floor: Museum of the Vienna Philharmonic

In the first floor of the Museum of the Vienna Philharmonic is to be found. The composer and conductor Otto Nicolai (1810-1849) here had his apartment when he founded this famous orchestra. In the imaginary concert hall cutouts can be seen from the Vienna Philharmonic Summer Night Concert and New Year's Concert. Located in the historic hall of mirrors the history and present of the orchestra is shown, through concert tours, tributes, Dirigierstäbe famous conductors and memorabilia. Through an interactive Waltz Dice Game, every visitor is a composer in 3/4-time. From eight random melody litters a personal Viennese Waltz formed. In total there are 1,679,616 options available.

2nd floor: SONOSPHERE

On the second floor can experiment with sounds and music Visitors at different terminals. Add differently designed rooms is trying to create a customized hearing awareness. These include prenatal meaning noise, the auditory pathway, the perception laboratory, instruments, voices sea, Polyphonium and the sound gallery.

3rd floor: The Great Masters

The third floor is dedicated to the history of music with a variety of acting in Vienna composers. Information boards, pictures, personal objects, instruments, precious originals and contemporary documents allow personal access to the composer. Audio guides deliver the tour, additional historical background to the great masters of classical music.

Following composers is here each an entire room allocated: Joseph Haydn, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Ludwig van Beethoven, Franz Schubert, Johann Strauss (Son ), Gustav Mahler and Arnold Schoenberg, Alban Berg and Anton Webern as a representative of the Second Viennese School.

In the Mozart room is " NAMADEUS ", an interactive computer program that Mozart's musical game KV 516f was modeled. This allows each visitor to convert his name to an original Mozart interpretation. This game was developed in 1787 by Mozart, the musical alphabet set to music.

Also to be found on the third floor is the " Virtual Conductor ". Here the visitor selects a piece of music from, takes the (radio) baton in hand and can direct as the Vienna Philharmonic.

4th floor: virto | stage

When virto | stage is a virtual stage, which was modeled after an opera house. On two stages different pieces offered, where visitors will itself become a director. The " time- pearl virto | stage" was designed by John German and merges music, song and imagery. By movements of the body, the music and the stage, thus enhancing an individual opera is to be built. Especially for children there is the " zookonzert virto | stage" that is based on Marko Simsas children's book and offers a fairy tale to participate.
