HÃ¥vard Gimse

Håvard Gimse ( born September 15, 1966 in Kongsvinger ) is a Norwegian pianist.

Life

Håvard Gimse is the brother of the cellist and artistic director of the Camerata Salzburg Øyvind Gimse.

Håvard Gimse studied at the Norwegian Academy of Music, the Mozarteum in Salzburg and the Hochschule der Künste in Berlin with Hans Leygraf. After his graduation in 1995 he continued his studies with Jiri Hlinka in Norway.

He was Artistic Director of the festival Elverum and currently has the artistic director of the Oslo Chamber Music Festival held.

Håvard Gimse regularly gives master classes and is a professor at the Academy of Music, Oslo.

Appearances

Håvard Gimse is one of the leading musicians of Norway. His very extensive repertoire includes, inter alia, more than 30 listed piano concertos, which he, for example, together with the Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, the Finnish Radio Orchestra, the Danish Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, the Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, has brought to the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, the Prague Symphony Orchestra, the Berlin Konzerthaus Orchestra and the Belgian National Philharmonic Orchestra hearing. He also regularly gives solo recitals and works as a chamber musician with the best artists in Scandinavia together.

Awards

Håvard Gimse is the winner of the Steinway Prize ( 1995), the Grieg Prize ( 1996), the Sibelius Prize ( 2004) and most recently the Norwegian Critics' Prize 2011 for his performances of Beethoven Sonatas with Truls Mørk at the Bergen International Festival. Furthermore him the Diapason d'Or and Gramophone Critics Choice was awarded.
