Havelte

Havelte is a town in the Dutch province of Drenthe. In 2007, the municipality had 3170 inhabitants. Together with the villages Diever, Dwingeloo and Vledder formed Havelte the municipality of Westerveld.

History

In 1942 the German occupiers built an airfield in the north of the village. The local farmers were forced to help with this. It existed until 1945, before it was destroyed by British and American bombers.

Attractions

  • Well-known and much visited the Butterfly Farm " Butterfly Paradise Papiliorama " a glass house with 900 m².
  • Havelte is part of the barrows route that cuts across the province Drenthe. Here at Havelterberg are the D53 and D54 Dolmen.
  • Between Havelte and Uffelte is the golf course.
  • The Clement's Church dating back to 1310 with the coming of the 1819 organ by Peter van Oeckelen.
