Haworthia magnifica

Haworthia magnifica is a species of the genus Haworthia in the subfamily Asphodelus ( Asphodeloideae ).

Description

Haworthia magnifica grows slowly and stemless clumping. The spread, trimmed leaves form a rosette with a diameter of up to 8 inches. The leaf blade is dark green to purple. The end face is slightly translucent between the veins. The leaf margin is spiny rough to fine. At the leaf surface are small slightly protruding warts.

The slender inflorescence reaches a length of up to 40 centimeters and consists of 15 to 20 white, brown veined flowers, a few of which are open at the same time. The tips of the outer tepals are squeezed.

Systematics and distribution

Haworthia magnifica is widespread in South Africa's Western Cape province.

The first description by Karl von Poellnitz was published in 1933.

Nomenclatural synonyms are Haworthia magnifica var maraisii ( Poelln. ) MBBayer (1976, incorrect name ICBN article 11.4) and Haworthia retusa var magnifica ( Poelln. ) Halda (1997).
