Hazin Lahiji

Hazin Lahiji (Persian حزین لاهیجی, DMG hazin Lahiji; * 1692 in Isfahan, Iran, † 1766 in Benares, India) is the pen name of Mohammad Ali ibn Abi Taleb ibn Abd Allah, also known as Mohammad Ali ibn Abi Taleb Hazin Lahiji, Mohammad ibn Abi Taleb Gilani and Sheikh Mohammad Ali Hazin Lahiji. He was an Iranian poet and scholar, and comes from an eminent family in Esfahan.

Life

His ancestors were scholars and landowners from Gilan (see the city Lahidschan ). In 1734 he emigrated to India, where he instilled in the Persian culture the guide layers. He regarded the Persian of the Indian writers with much contempt. Hazin Lahiji is considered one of the most important scholars of the Safavid era, his knowledge extended over the both of contemporary theology as well as science; This is attested to by his extant writings.
