Headlamp#Reflector optics

A free-form reflector ( also stages reflector ) is a reflector of a directional light source, such as The headlights of a motor vehicle, but also by hand, office or other lamps, whose special feature is that the reflector shape does not correspond to mathematical ruled surface. This type of reflector is composed of a number of surfaces, the form and size of the individual areas are calculated by a computer. The reflector is produced by injection molding.

The light can be adjusted freely to a parent form, such as a body line. With free-form reflectors can be an asymmetrical distribution without the otherwise necessary lens realize. The useful light intensity is increased at the same time. Free-form reflectors were introduced in 1988 and have successfully established themselves largely as clear-glass headlights in the automotive lighting, both of design and cost reasons.
