Health Services Union

The Health Services Union ( HSU ) is a trade union with approximately 70,000 members in all areas of health care in Australia, which was founded in 1991. The headquarters of the Health Services Union of Australia is located in Melbourne and is a member of the trade union umbrella organization in Australia, the Australian Council of Trade Unions.

Members and activities

Members of this union are doctors, nurses and other staff, such as physiotherapists, radiologists, employees in the ambulance essence, managers and assistants.

The HSU conducted in recent campaigns for health care, to wage increases and improved transport structures, dental treatment, improvement in disease treatment and rehabilitation.

History

In 1911 there were two trade unions in Australia, representing the interests of those who worked in hospitals, the Hospital and Asylum Attendants and Employees Union of Australia ( HDAEA ) in Victoria and the Hospital and Asylum Employees' Union ( HEA) in New South Wales.

The union in Victoria in 1914 changed its name to Hospital Dispensary and Asylum Employees' Union of Australia, and from 1924 onwards, an expansion of their trade union activities in other Australian states took place. On May 26, 1922, another union in Victoria, the Hospital Employees Association founded. Both unions had members in Victoria and New South Wales.

1930 merged the two unions for Hospital, Dispensary and Asylum Employees ' and Allied Government Officers' Federation of Australia. Changed its name to the union in 1946 and finally in 1959 in Hospital Employees' Federation of Australia ( HEF ). The HEF expanded in 1961 to Tasmania and in 1986 scientists employed in health care, therapists and pharmacists were included in the union.

In New South Wales there have been since 1947, the Hospital Employees' Association of NSW, 1965 The Health and Research Employees Association ( HREA ) umnannte itself.

According to a member survey in July 1990, the Hospital Employees' Federation of Australia and The Health and Research Employees Association merged on their National Congress on 7 and 8 February 1991 Health Services Union.
