Heiko Müller

Heiko Müller ( born January 13, 1968 in Hamburg ) is a German artist.

Life and work

Heiko Müller has worked as a freelance artist, but also works as a professional media designer and illustrator. Except in his hometown of his works including New York, Los Angeles, Seattle, Chicago, Paris, St. Petersburg and Tartu were issued. He has also curated a number of exhibitions in Hamburg. He has a degree in design from the University of Applied Sciences Hamburg.

Heiko Müller's images reflect influences from areas as diverse as medieval icon painting, the paintings of the Flemish and Dutch masters, folk art and contemporary comic art. First major breakthroughs he recorded with combinations of modern computer graphics and medieval Christian icons. His most recent works are near the American Lowbrow and Pop Surrealism - scene.

Particularly characteristic of his recent works are portraits of animals with an eerie, apocalyptic mood. Often they seem to like characters from Bosch and Brueghel in a modern variant. In his own words he is " fascinated by the spiritual terrors, which is found in the works of the Old Masters. I'm trying to find out what happens when you combine this with the serene atmosphere and harmless world of rural folk art. "

Müller's recent works are marked by a multi-year phase of drawing with colored and pencils, during which he developed special techniques in order to give the images the appearance of oil paintings. Meanwhile, he has returned to the painting itself. His preferred media are oil and acrylic on paper, and oil on canvas, in turn, are supplemented by drawings.

His works are now almost more often shown in the U.S. than in Europe, where he also has a solid fan and customer base.

Heiko Müller lives with his wife and two sons near Hamburg.
