Hein Hoyer

Hein Hoyer also in the Latin form as Hinricus Hoyeri (* 1380 in Hamburg, † May 12, 1447 ) was a statesman and mayor of Hamburg.

Life

Hoyer was born in 1380 and came from a respectable family. He was elected in 1413 the Council of the City of Hamburg. There he represented the interests of the bourgeois opposition to that of the old Council families. In 1417 he became mayor and participated in numerous missions and visited the Hanseatic days as a representative of Hamburg. Also on the Council of Constance, he represented the city and was able to reach the imperial confirmation of the privileges of the city of Hamburg. Together with Lübeck, Hamburg was able to conquer 1420 Bergedorf of Saxe- Lauenburg and joined together with the Mayor of Lübeck Jordan Pleskow the Treaty of pearl mountain. 1427 Hoyer came after a naval battle of the Hanseatic League with Denmark for five years in captivity. In 1435 he was able to reach a peace agreement with Denmark in the Treaty of Vordingborg. Hoyer died in 1447 in Hamburg.

Hans Friedrich Blunck wrote in 1920 a national revolutionary novel whose title character is Hein Hoyer.
