Heinrich Bandlow

Heinrich Bandlow ( born April 14, 1855 in Tribsees; † August 25, 1933 in Greifswald ) was a German writer who wrote in German and high in Low German. He is sometimes referred to on the basis of the successful Mecklenburg writer Fritz Reuter, a " Pomeranian Reuter ".

Life and achievements

Heinrich Bandlow, was born on 14 April 1855 in Tribsees as the son of a master carpenter Christian Bandlow and his wife Wilhelmine, born king. He attended the town school in Tribsees and then from 1872 to 1875 the teacher training college in Pommern. As a teacher, he worked from 1875 in Richtenberg and then from 1877 to 1907 in Tribsees. After a special training in Berlin in the years 1907 and 1908 he taught from 1908 until his retirement in 1916 as a drawing teacher in Greifswald. Bandlow married in 1879 and had six children. He visited his son Konrad ( † 1921) in Gützkow who lived there long and collected literature on Gützkow and wrote several articles for the newspaper and Greifswald "Our Pommerland " on topics of history of Gützkow, and general Pomeranian history. His manuscript and article directory is present in the original with a relative on the mayor's house in Gützkow.

Already as a young man began Bandlow to write poetry, fairy tales, short stories and novels. In this case, the financial aspect was not in the background. After the first publications in newspapers in the Low German language several publishers were aware of him, and brought out his works. A total of 34 books were published by him.

Bandlows works are occasionally reprinted to the present day. The book Our Town. Chatter of a small city dweller appeared in 1944 in 3rd edition as field post issue. In the published 1969 by Fritz Raeck anthology Pomeranian literature Bandlow is represented with a poem and a story. In 1987, a selection of his works was published under the title Not leigen ... and in 1998 a further selection under the title Malle birds from Western Pomerania, both edited by Jürgen Grambow.
