Heinrich-Böll-Preis

The Heinrich Böll Prize is a literary prize, which is awarded by the City of Cologne in honor of the Nobel Heinrich Böll, a freeman of the town since 1982. The award, which honors each a literary life's work, was first awarded annually since 1980 as an urban literary prize. Since 1985, the award is named after Heinrich Böll Prize. The price was endowed with DM 35,000. Since 1993, the Heinrich Böll Prize is awarded every two years. Currently, the prize is worth 20,000 euros.

Jury

The jury consists of

  • The Mayor of Cologne or his representative as chairman,
  • One representative of the Committee on Art and Culture / museum buildings voting fractions
  • The Cultural Department of the City of Cologne,
  • The Director of the Public Library
  • One of the directors of the Institute for German Language and Literature at the University of Cologne
  • Two authors
  • A literary critic

Have the Mayor, the Director of Cultural Affairs and the Director of the City Library are automatic members. The other members of the jury will be appointed by the Committee for Arts and Culture / Museum New buildings for the duration of the parliamentary term.

The jury is currently (2011 ) and others from the professionals Liane Dirks, Marcel Beyer, Günter Blamberger and Hajo Steinert and passes resolutions, chaired by the mayor of Cologne.
