Heinrich Gaedcke

Ludwig Heinrich " Heinz" Gaedcke ( born January 16, 1905 in Guben; † 21 December 1992 Forest Esch) was a German major general in the army, the Wehrmacht, and later lieutenant general in the army.

Career

Gaedcke occurred on 1 April 1924 in the Army, where he was already in various officer uses before he was trained at the Military Academy from 1935 to 1937. After use in the general staff of the army, he was Principal Staff Officer ( Ia) of the 25th Infantry Division. In 1943 he was first as a lecture hall director at the Institute of War tactics lessons, starting in October 1943, he preserved the business of the Joint Chiefs of Staff at the XXIV Panzer Corps and XI. Army Corps, with which he was included among other things in the tank of Cherkassy. While its use as Chief of Staff of the 6th Army Gaedcke was among the officers who were able to bring along with the Commander General of Artillery Maximilian Fretter - Pico after the defeat of the army by Soviet forces during Operation Jassy - Kishinev in safety. On November 1, 1944, promoted to Major-General took place. When the war ended he went into American captivity, from which he was discharged in 1947.

In 1956 he joined the newly formed Bundeswehr. After he led the army officer school I in Hanover at the rank brigadier general, he was from August 1, 1957 to September 30, 1959 Commander of the Staff College. Until December 31, 1960 Gaedcke was commander of the 11th Panzer Grenadier Division. From 1 January 1961 to 31 March 1965, he was in his last military use of the Commanding General of III. Corps.
