Heinrich Grünfeld

Heinrich Grünfeld ( born July 4, 1855 in Prague; † August 26, 1931 in Berlin ) was an austrian cellist, composer and music educator.

He studied at the Prague Conservatory and went in 1876 to Berlin, where he taught at Theodor Kullak New Academy of Music.

Together with Xaver Scharwenka and Gustav Hollaender, he established a very successful trio that until 1930 had performances. Later Émile Sauret were, Max von Pauer and Florian Zajic its partners.

He also acted as a teacher ( since 1904 professor ) and on concert tours in Germany, Austria -Hungary and Russia. According to Siegmund Kaznelson ( Jews in the German sphere of culture ), he was remembered as " amiable representative of the more intimate genres and chamber musician ."

He was also known for his quick-witted jokes ( he frequented the literary salon of Richard M. Meyer and his wife Estella, and in the house of coal magnate Edward Arnhold ).

Heinrich Grünfeld's memoirs are entitled " In Major and Minor " ( 1924).

His brother Alfred Grünfeld (1852-1924) was a noted pianist and composer.

Heinrich Grünfeld was buried in the cemetery Wilmersdorf.
