Cliffs " Brockentor " on the Heinrichshöhe

The Heinrichshöhe is a minor summit of the Brocken Mountain, with about 1045 m above sea level. NN is the second highest summit in the Harz in the district of Harz, Saxony- Anhalt.

It is accessible only with permission from the National Park Service for research purposes and for game management today.

Geographical location

The Heinrich height is in the Harz National Park, approximately 3.2 km north- northwest of Schierke, a southwestern district of the town of Wernigerode. It is located about 1.4 km southeast of the Brocken summit and about 250 m northeast of the Brockenstraße (also called chunks road, county road 1356) between Eckerloch Stieg Stieg and jungle. Gipfelnah on the southern flank of the survey is the cliff Brockentor ( 1039.5 m above sea level. NN ).

History

The Henry Trail is the oldest documented way to the Brocken. He was first mentioned in records in 1591 and ran roughly parallel to the present-day Brockenstraße. From the top we went to directly to the Brocken summit.

The mountain was named after Count Heinrich Ernst of Stolberg- Wernigerode, on the Heinrichshöhe the left to create a peat from 1744. Since 1760 there were on the Heinrichshöhe an herb garden.

The name Brockentor also dates from the 18th century, when right next to about 5 meters high granite cliff stood the first chunk inn. On the chunks, there were at that time no gastronomy. The guest house is burned down in 1799. The remains of the foundations are still in front of the Brockentor.

After the First World War a Skidenkmal was built on the road not far from the previous chunk pond.

In the granite of Brockentor Cliff lettering was carved in 1936 by chunks protection.

The Heinrichshöhe was until August 13, 1961 a popular destination in the resin. After the wall was built it was in the restricted area. After German reunification, the Heinrich trail was closed.
