Heinz Frei

Heinz Frei ( born January 28, 1958 in Solothurn ) is a Swiss wheelchair racing athletes.

The learned surveying signatory 1978 wheelchair since an accident at a mountain race of the year, since 1984 takes part in the Paralympics and has won numerous medals in total, including fifteen gold medals at the Summer Games. Furthermore, he can look back on numerous wins in athletics EMs and World Cups and was repeatedly Swiss Sportsman of the Year ( 1992, 1993, 1995-1999, 2008, 2009 ). In the years 1994 and 1996, won the free wheelchair rating of the Boston Marathon. In 2005 he finally celebrated his 100th marathon victory in Berlin. Despite his advanced age for participating athletes from more than 50 years stays free successful, he won three of his fifteen gold medals at the Paralympic Summer Games in 2008 and 2012.

He also currently holds the following two world records:

  • Marathon 1:20:14 hours
  • 100 km 3:52:30 hours.

Today free officiates as Sports Director of the Swiss Paraplegics Association, Wheelchair Sport Switzerland Nottwil.
