Heinz Hunsdiecker

Heinz Hunsdiecker ( born January 22, 1904 in Cologne, † November 22, 1981 ) was a German chemist.

Life and work

Hunsdiecker studied under Robert Wintgen at the University of Cologne, where in 1929 his doctorate with a dissertation on " particle weight, combining weight and particle charge organic colloids " acquired. His wife Claire (1903-1995), whom he married in 1931, also a graduate student at Robert Wintgen.

Heinz Hunsdiecker improved along with his wife in 1942 by Alexander Borodin in 1861 Porfirjewitsch discovered method for the conversion of mono-carboxylic acids in halocarbons by silver salts and halogens, especially bromine. Therefore, the reaction is called Hunsdiecker reaction.
