Heinz Oberhummer ( born May 19, 1941 in Bischofshofen ) is an Austrian physicist and associate professor emeritus

Life

Heinz Oberhummer grew up in Salzburg, the son of " senior teacher Oberhummer in Obertauern ". He informed his brother and him. Einklassigen in a primary school with a total of only eight children

Later, he studied physics at the Karl- Franzens- University of Graz and at the Ludwig- Maximilians- University of Munich.

Work

Oberhummer was Associate Professor of Theoretical Physics at the Atomic Institute of the Technical University of Vienna. His main research area were processes of nucleosynthesis. He also dealt with issues related to the fine-tuning of the fundamental constants. He succeeded to derive quantifiable statements together with Attila Csótó and Helmut Schlattl by the cosmological fine-tuning of the fundamental forces in the universe has been studied in the development of carbon and oxygen in the three- alpha process in red giants.

He was the initiator of Nuclei in the Cosmos, a series of conferences in the field of nuclear astrophysics, held since 1990 around the world every two years in a different country.

A particular concern to him is the popularization of scientific content in particular with the help of new media. So he developed web-based learning and information systems and coordinated, funded by the European Commission's educational projects, such as Cinema and Science.

Since 2007 Oberhummer is with the physicist Werner Gruber and comedian Martin Puntigam together designers and presenter of science cabaret Science Busters. The Science Busters try natural science in an understandable, fun and exciting way to show. The Science Busters occur in Rabenhoftheater up in Vienna and guest appearances in various theaters in the German -speaking world. They have a weekly radio column podcast in the youth radio station FM4 ORF included. Since 2011 their cabaret programs are broadcast as a television broadcast as part of the Thursday night and Die.Nacht in one ORF.

Heinz Oberhummer is the scientific advisory board of the Giordano Bruno Foundation and the Science of Society for the Scientific Investigation of para-science and freethinkers Organisation Austria. He was until May 2011 Chairman of the Central Council of confessionless and until May 2010 President of the Society for Critical Thinking, the Austrian regional group of the Society for the Scientific Investigation of para-science. He is one of the initiators of the campaign against church privileges, and since June 21, 2011 Chairman of the initiative religion is a private matter.
