Heiterwanger See

Heiterwanger lake lies just north-east of the municipality or Heiterwang southeast of Reutte, in the district of Reutte, Tyrol, Austria within the Oberammergau Alps.

The lake is 1.37 km ² and a maximum of 60 m deep, has two aboveground inflows and an outlet (300 m long connecting channel to the Plansee ). It is used together with the Plansee from the power plant Reutte as memory and lowered during the winter months. The low biomass of algae and the high visibility depths ( up to 15 m) show lack of nutrients and thus an excellent water conditions.

The abundance of fish of the lake was known far and wide, and the fishing rights often alternated. Also, Emperor Maximilian I was often on Heiterwanger and Plansee for fishing and hunting.
