The Common Sunflower Bride ( Helenium autumnale ) is a plant from the sunflower family ( Asteraceae).

Description

The Common Sunflower bride is a perennial herbaceous plant that forms a short rhizome and reaches heights of growth from 50 to 170 centimeters. The stalk is winged. The leaves are sessile, lanceolate, margin entire or removed ährig and decurrent on the stem. The various heads are arranged in a corymb with 5 cm diameter. The ray flowers are wedge-shaped and 3- bidentate (up to 5 - bidentate ). The disk is hemispherical to spherical and dirty yellow.

The flowering period extends from July to September, seldom begins in June.

Occurrence

The Common Sunflower bride comes in southern Canada and the U.S. before on marsh meadows and lakeshores.

Use

The Ordinary Sneezeweed is rarely used as an ornamental plant for borders and as a cut flower. It is in culture at least since 1635.
