Hellmut May

Hellmut May ( * June 9, 1921, † November 11, 2011 in Richmond, British Columbia) was an Austrian figure skater, who started in a single run.

May's career was interrupted by World War II. He was in the forties four Austrian Vice Champion in figure skating, always behind Edi Rada. He took part in his only 1939 European Championship and finished it to ninth place. In his only world championship is he in 1948 aft. May played two Olympic Games. 1936 in Garmisch -Partenkirchen, he finished 14th place and in 1948 in St. Moritz, he finished eighth.

May 1954 went to Canada, settling in Vancouver and later became coach of the Canadian national figure skating. He was the first coach of Karen Magnussen. In 2010, May was inducted into the Canadian Figure Skating Hall of Fame.
