Helmut Losch

Losch was a trained locksmith steam locomotive. During his apprenticeship in Stralsund he came to weight lifting. In the BSG Motor Stralsund coaching, he took part in 116 competitions.

About the stations GDR youth champion and various competitions in Germany in 1971, he reached his first international competition at the European Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria a third place.

In the same year he won ( in the discipline bumping along with Stefan Griitzner from Karl- Marx-Stadt in the discipline tearing) the gold medal at the World Championships in Lima, Peru. This was the first German world champion in weightlifting.

In 1976 Helmut Losch at the Olympic Games in Montreal, the bronze medal in the elite class, the super heavyweight division. This he estimated later as his most success, especially since the start had not actually planned in this weight class.

During his career, which he finished in 1978 with an East German championship, Helmut Losch won at the World Championships, a gold, five silver and two bronze medals at European Championships five silver and three bronze medals and also took a three East German Championship title to Stralsund.

His best performance in a duel was 387.5 kg.

After ending his playing career, he has remained committed to his sport and was the model for many weightlifters, not only in 1860 Stralsund, the successor of BSG Motor Stralsund. Recently the former ship fitter the People Stralsund Stralsund worked in the workshop for the disabled in the care of the mentally ill.

He died at the age of 57 of a heart attack.
