Help Cure Muscular Dystrophy

Help Cure Muscular Dystrophy is one of the World Community Grid project for distributed computing. The aim of the project is the calculation of protein-protein interactions that are associated with muscular dystrophy. The calculation of the protein-protein interactions will cause researchers to design molecules that inhibit or promote the bonds between proteins. This should lead to better treatment of neuromuscular diseases.

In the first phase of the Help Cure Muscular -Dystrophy - project (19 December 2006 to 11 June 2007), the interaction was calculated from 168 proteins ( 8000 years of computing time needed to be applied ). In the second phase, the protein-protein interactions are calculated from 2,246 proteins such that for 91,680 years of computing time must be invested.

To participate in a small program (called "Grid - client " ) must be installed after registering on the website of World Community Grid, which is available for Windows, Linux and Mac under the BOINC software. This program covers from the website then a task package.

The results of the calculations are provided in the public domain of research.
