Helvetia is a ghost town in Pima County in the U.S. state of Arizona and is located at the foot of the Santa Rita Mountains, north of Madera Canyon.

History

Helvetia was founded in 1891 as a home for miners from the surrounding copper mines. The village had 300 inhabitants, of whom most were Mexicans. By 1911 the mines closed again because they were unprofitable due to falling commodity prices. Opened on December 12, 1899 the post office closed on December 31, 1921 and marked the practical end of town.

Today

Today is not much of Helvetia to see only a few foundation walls protruding from the ground, also allows the cemetery still accounting. In the surrounding area you will find heaps and shafts of the copper mines.
