Hemaris rubra

Hemaris rubra is a butterfly (moth ) from the family of moth ( Sphingidae ).

Features

The moths have a wingspan of 44-58 millimeters. Their wings are almost completely covered with reddish brown scales. The type is that of the genus Hemaris with the lowest proportion transparent wing regions, with the exception of Hemaris croatica is entirely missing from the transparent areas. The genitalia of the male are similar to those of the males of Hemaris croatica and Hemaris tityus, but the extension of the right saccule is longer.

Occurrence and life

The diurnal species is so far only detected in some valleys of Kashmir. They settled floriferous meadows around 2500 meters above sea level. Per year is flying a generation of mid-June to early August. Is about the further life as nothing known about the preimaginal stages and parasitoids. Probably overwinters as a pupa the way.
