Hemigalinae

Otterzivette ( Cynogale bennettii )

The tapes and Otterzivetten ( Hemigalinae ) are a subfamily of the civets ( Viverridae ) and include four types:

  • Bands Roller ( Hemigalus derbyanus )
  • Stain Roller ( Chrotogale owstoni )
  • Plain Roller ( Diplogale hosei )
  • Otterzivette ( Cynogale bennettii )

The members of this group live in forests in Southeast Asia, like all civets are primarily nocturnal loner. While the semiaquatic Otterzivette has an otter -like body with a rather broad head and short tail, the other three representatives are strikingly sleek, elongated animals with a pointed snout.

These animals live primarily on the ground and to a greater extent than other mongooses predators, with worms and insects are among their favorite food.

All four species are relatively unknown, little-known animals are also threatened by deforestation in their inventory.
