Henderson Island (Shackleton Ice Shelf)

Henderson Iceland is an ice-covered, uninhabited island 15 km southeast of the Masson- island within the Shackleton Ice Shelf in the Southern Ocean near the Antarctic mainland.

Henderson is about 14 kilometers long and up to 240 m high. The island was discovered in August 1912 by the Australian scientists Douglas Mawson, and named after Professor GC Henderson Adelaide, a former member of the Australian Antarctic Expedition Advisory Committee.
