Masson Island

The Masson Island ( also Mission Iceland ) is an ice-covered, uninhabited island 15 km northwest of Henderson Island within the Shackleton Ice Shelf in the Southern Ocean near the Antarctic mainland.

The Masson Island is about 27 kilometers long and up to 465 m high. The island was discovered in February 1912 by the Australian scientists Douglas Mawson, and named after Professor David Orme Masson from Adelaide, a former member of the Australian Antarctic Expedition Advisory Committee.
