Henri Cuq

Henri Cuq ( born March 12, 1942 in Toulouse, † June 11, 2010 in Paris) was a French politician of the Union pour un mouvement populaire (UMP ).

Biography

After school he studied at the Institut d' études politiques de Toulouse. Cuq was a longtime personal friend of Jacques Chirac. After the election of Chirac list of mayor of Paris in 1977 Cuq its Special Representative ( Chargé de mission ) and then in 1979 private secretary of the mayor. He continued in this position until 1986.

Subsequently, he was first elected as a Member of the National Assembly ( Assemblée Nationale ) and represented there until 1988, first the interests of the department of Ariège. In 1988 he was elected as a candidate of the Rassemblement pour la République (RPR ) as a member of the National Assembly in the 9th constituency of the department of Yvelines.

Later he was at times during Chirac's presidency Commissioner for Police ( Chief of Police ) and Director of General Information ( Director of généraux Renseignements ) in the Élysée Palace.

In the election for the National Assembly, he was elected as a candidate of the UMP in the 9th electoral district of Yvelines again in 2002 as a member.

In March 2004, President Chirac appointed him delegate Minister for Relations with Parliament ( Ministre chargé des Relations avec le délégué Parlement ) in the cabinet of Prime Minister Jean -Pierre Raffarin. This post he held also in the subsequent government of Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin to May 2007.

In the election for the National Assembly in 2007, he was re-elected in the 9th electoral district of Yvelines and thus belonged to the Parliament in the 13th legislative period until his death. He was also from 2008 to his death chairman of the Association Avec le président Chirac. In October 2008, he was one of the seven members of the UMP, who voted against an amendment to the Constitution of the Fifth French Republic.
