Henri de La Trémoille

Henri de La Trémoille, ( born December 22, 1598 Thouars; † January 21, 1674 ) was a member of La Trémoille, Duke of Thouars and La Trémouille, Prince of Talmont and Taranto, Count of Laval, Guines, Jonvelles, Taillebourg and Benon.

Life

Henri was a son of the Duke of Thouars, Claude de La Trémoille. He followed this as the third Duke of Thouars 1604 under guardianship of his mother, Charlotte Brabantina of Orange- Nassau. A year later, he noticed the extensive possessions to from the inheritance of the Counts of Laval in Brittany and Mayenne, who was able to secure his mother's house in a lengthy inheritance dispute.

Henri's father had converted to Protestantism, but Henri converted back to Catholicism in 1628, which led to a break with his mother. He founded in Thouars 1632 Ursuline and 1652 Klarissenkloster, but neither his wife tried to convert to move, the life remained Huguenot, nor to prohibit the Protestantism in the Duchy.

Henri served in the French army as a maître -de -camp- général of the light cavalry, was wounded in Italy at the knee and then turned to politics. In the 1648 Treaty of Westphalia had been granted to him as the King Frederick of Naples, the nominal title of king of Naples Heritage.

As a result of a severe gout disease, leaving Henri the duchy in 1668 his eldest son.

The Duke married on March 19 1619 in Sedan his cousin Marie de la Tour d' Auvergne ( 1600-1665 ), daughter of Duke Henri de La Tour d' Auvergne, duc de Bouillon and the Elisabeth of Orange- Nassau, he with the Children had the following:

  • Louis Maurice (1624-1681), Count of Laval, Abbot of Talmont and Charroux

  • Armand Charles (1635-1643), Count of Taillebourg
