Henri, Duke of Verneuil

Henri de Bourbon, duc de Verneuil ( born November 3, 1601 Castle Vincennes, † May 28, 1682 in Château de Verneuil -sur -Oise ) was a natural son of Henry IV of France with Catherine Henriette de Balzac d' Entragues, Marquise de Verneuil, who was legitimized in 1603.

Henri in 1612 Bishop of Metz (up to 1652), had the Abbey of St. Germain -des- Prés and about 400,000 pounds of income from ecclesiastical benefices. 1661, he was Knight of the Royal Order in 1663 duke and peer of France with the title duc de Verneuil.

In 1665 he went as ambassador extraordinary to England. In 1666 he became governor of Languedoc. In 1668 he married after he returned his ecclesiastical benefices, Charlotte Séguier ( 1622-1704 ), daughter of the chancellor and the governor of Languedoc, Séguier that Sully's widow. Henri de Verneuil was considered righteous and honest man. The cardinal's hat, had asked his father, refused to Pope Innocent X. him because of his illegitimate descent.
