Henri Fescourt

Marcelin -Henri Fescourt ( born November 23, 1880 in Béziers, † August 13, 1966 in Neuilly -sur -Seine ) was a French film director.

Life

Marcellin- Henri Fescourt studied law and worked after graduating as a music critic and journalist for the newspaper " L' Intransigeant ". He also worked as a playwright. 1912 Fescourt had his directorial debut with the film company Gaumont, when he turned about 20 films up to the outbreak of war. It was not until 1921, he then continued his film career. In the film company of Louis Nalpas that had the film d'Art prescribed, he was director of literary adaptations as Sandorf ( 1921) by Jules Verne, Les Misérables (1925 ) by Victor Hugo and Monte Cristo (1928 ) by Alexandre Dumas. In particular, the 32 film roles comprehensive Les Misérables and the four-hour Monte Cristo with Jean Angelo in the title role are considered the major works Fescourts. In talkies Fescourt was hardly successful. His last film was Retour de flamme (1943 ), a comedy starring Renée Saint- Cyr.

In the 1940s Fescourt practiced faculty activities at the film school "Institut des hautes études cinématographiques " and as successor by Germaine Dulac at the " École technique de photographie et de cinéma " ( 1943-1946 ). He founded his own drama school and took over its management. As a teacher, he was able to acquire a number of Louis Delluc widow Eve Francis. From 1945 to 1953 Fescourt as a representative of the technicians union member, the film Control Commission.

He has written two books. In 1950 he published his work " You Cinématographe au Cinéma ", which deals with the technical development of filmmaking, and 1960 his memoirs " La Foi et les Montagnes ".
