Henri Tresca

Henri Édouard Tresca ( born October 12, 1814 Dunkirk, † June 21, 1885 ) was a French engineer who ( CNAM ) taught as a professor at the Conservatoire National des mechanics Arts et Métiers in Paris.

Tresca was involved in the design of today kept in Paris Urmeterstabes. From thermo-mechanical stability reasons he let this make from a combination of 90 % platinum and 10% iridium with a cross-shaped cross-section.

On the Tresca shear stress hypothesis goes back, which deals with the mechanical strength of materials.

The reputation Trescas as an engineer was so good that Gustave Eiffel led him as number 3 on a list of 72 scientists and engineers who are supposed to have the silting up of the Eiffel tower possible.
